We visited Parc specifically for dessert and bread, a choice we've seen others make frequently. While our server was adequate, the service did not meet the high standards we've come to expect from this restaurant. He seemed eager to rush us out and wasn’t very personable, which made for a less-than-pleasant experience. As our table discussed the gratuity, we felt the service hadn’t been great, but planned to leave a smaller tip and add some spare cash to the table when were ready to leave. We split the bill three ways, and one person’s online tip didn’t go through, which made it look like we left only $1. Before we had a chance to add the cash tip we intended to leave, our server came over, checked the POS, and rudely said, “You know gratuity wasn’t added to the bill, right?” We were caught off guard by his tone and the phrasing of his question, which felt inappropriate and out of place for a restaurant of Parc’s caliber. When we didn’t respond immediately, he raised his voice and said “OK!” before walking away abruptly. It seemed like he assumed we were leaving a poor tip, though we had planned to leave a cash tip that, combined with the online tip, totaled 25%. Despite the uncomfortable encounter, we did leave the cash tip. However, the interaction left a bad taste in our mouths. As students, we understand being on a budget and sympathize with servers, but dining at Parc is a rare treat for us, and this experience was disappointing. We left feeling more uncomfortable than satisfied.
